The government expects the troubled national carrier Estonian Air to table by the beginning of next week its final restructuring plan on the basis of which a possible capital injection will be decided.

"With regard to restructuring, the key definitely is that the company has to be sustainable and profitable in the long term, then the government will have a considerably stronger position also when seeking [European Commission's] permission to give state aid," Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts said at the government's press conference on Thursday.

Parts stressed that the government has held four discussions on the problem of Estonian Air in a short time which he said shows its serious attitude and the wish to find the best solution. "We are now pretty close to the solution," he added.

The government's first preference at this point is restructuring of the company, the minister said.
