Estonian agricultural producer prices up by fourth in Q2

The Estonian agricultural producer price index shot up by almost a fourth in annual comparison in the second quarter of this year, rising by 24 percent with the index for potatoes soaring two and a half times to 333.5 points, it appears from the figures released by Statistics Estonia on Monday.

Producer prices in crop production rose 63 percent year-on-year and 5 percent compared to the previous quarter, to 241.2 points. Potatoes accounted for most of the total rise, followed by vegetables and cereals with price rises of respectively 17.3 percent and 15.6 percent.

Producer prices of animal production climbed 7.6 percent in annual comparison but showed a decrease of 0.1 percent against the previous quarter. The index for milk rose by 10 percent year-on-year to 129 points.

The reference base for agricultural producer prices is 2005.
