Experts: Estonia has a lot of unrealized potential.

Estonia's good macro indicators and relatively poor social situation expressed in the recent Estonian Human Development Report lead experts to conclude that the country has failed to realize a lot of its potential. Economist Jüri Sepp said that people in Estonia live 20 positions below what the country's human resource quality would allow in terms of the UN human development ranking while media expert Raul Rebane said that gender inequality remains one of the most serious problems for the Estonian society. The human development report concludes that Estonia has managed good results in terms of economic, internet and press freedoms while the standard of living of its people remains well below the European average. Estonia came in 33. in the UN Human Development Index in 2012.

Margelov: Estonia-Russia border treaty ready for signatures.

Chairman of the Russian Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee Mikhail Margelov has said that the Estonia-Russia border treaty is now ready to be signed. Margelov told Interfaxyesterday that the treaty marks an important milestone in the diplomatic relations of the two countries and will work to improve relations in general. Margelov emphasized the fact that matters pertaining to territorial integrity have no place in the treaty.

Estonia to participate in Afghanistan extension mission.

Commander of the Defense Forces, Major-General Riho Terras confirmed Estonia's preparedness to participate in Afghanistan's training and support mission "Resolute Support" at the recent NATO Military Committee meeting in Brussels. Terras said that while Estonia plans to participate, more precise details will be worked out in cooperation with allies.
