Statistics: 520 people from Estonia became Finnish citizens in 2012

During 2012, 520 people coming from Estonia were naturalized as citizens of Finland, the news portal of the Finnish public broadcaster Yle said.

In all 9,090 foreigners living in Finland were granted Finnish citizenship last year, compared with 4,560 in 2011, the portal said citing figures from the Statistical Office of Finland.

Of the naturalized citizens last year 4,970 were women and 4,120 men. People younger than 14 numberd 2,510 and people aged over 65, 170.

There were 7,990 people among the naturalized citizens who did not have EU citizenship prior to becoming a citizen of Finland and 1,100 who were citizens of another EU member state. Of the naturalized citizens 2,480 came from Russia, 610 from Somalia and 520 from Estonia.
