POSTIMEES:

Prosecution decides not to launch proceedings concerning politicization of city officials.

The Northern District Prosecution decided on Friday not to launch criminal proceedings to ascertain the circumstances of employment in service and removal of Tallinn city government officials as information currently available includes no elements pointing to corruption. The prosecution said that in-house emails leaked to the media and statements of concerned parties suggest that staff changes were at least in part tied to personal requests and inability to perform duties as opposed to failing to donate to the party. The emails in question were made public on Wednesday and detailed a request by Center Party secretary general Priit Toobal to remove from office four city government officials for failure to "fulfil obligations in front of the party" and consequent action by mayor Edgar Savisaar to order the removal of the said persons.

Government leaning towards Paldiski as LNG terminal location.

Information available to Postimees suggests that the government has agreed to put its weight behind the Paldiski liquid natural gas terminal project and abandon Elering's Port of Tallinn alternative. Economy minister Juhan Parts said that Paldiski has several advantages over other locations like a previously agreed upon structure of shareholders, lower construction costs and an ice-free harbor and that the government hopes that Paldiski project developer Alexela will find a way to cooperate with competitor Vopak EOS and power transmission network operator Elering. The final location of the terminal will be decided in talks with Finland as a competing project aims to build the joint Baltic-Finnish LNG terminal in Inkoo.
