Estonia spent 11,876,688 euros on the prevention of substance abuse in 2007-2012, it appears from the final report of the national five-year strategy of drug abuse prevention to be introduced to the government on Thursday.

According to the report two thirds of the sum was used on activities to reduce the demand and one third on activities to diminish the supply, spokespeople for the government said.
The most important activities of the strategy in 2012 were the enabling of rehab to continue in houses of detention, measures connected to reducing the supply and accessibility of drugs, and expanding the provision of stationary rehabilitation services.
In 2012 the total cost of implementing the national strategy of substance abuse prevention amounted to 2,322,755 euros. In addition to the state budget, aid in the sum of 213,412 euros from the European Social Fund was used to fund the strategy last year. The funded activities focused on developing and rendering counseling services directed at people with drug addiction.
The strategy's final report was drawn up by the National Institute for Health Development.
