Spring Storm battles left South-Estonian forests an abundant heritage of training grenades and blank cartridges. A local has been hurt.

In Puku Commune near Otepää City – the ground for many a Spring Storm large-scale drill battle – the 14 years old son Olev Korb at Haabaneeme farm has been harvesting training grenades, dummy cartridges and what not in the woods, to the dismay of the family.

«I asked my boy if there were more of these. Loads and loads, he said,» said Liina Nugis, the Mother.

Experts summoned to remove the explosives said that though an imitation, blank shells may still be dangerous as they explode. Indeed: a grown-up was hurt while trying to pry open one such cartridge. According to South-Estonian bomb group boss Kalvar Tammine, it was a light burn or a bump.
