Defense Forces to close sniper school.

While the military claims training will continue in the Viru Battalion, specialists believe the decision marks the end of professional sniper training in Estonia. Information available to Postimees suggests that several experts are planning to leave the Defense Forces as a result of the restructurization plan as they have little faith in promises of continued training. The current sniper school with the Kalevi Infantry Battalion trains active servicemen, conscripts, mission soldiers, policemen and even foreign guests. Training covers everything from ballistics to camouflage and how to detect and counter enemy snipers. Information officer Timo Saar said that sniper training will continue in the Viru Battalion but that the number of active positions will be cut from six to three and activities will be subject to reorganization.

Child protectors looking to equate e-cigarettes to tobacco.

The Estonian Union for Child Welfare has sent a letter to the social ministry in which it states Estonia needs to make greater efforts to stop children from smoking by restricting the use of e-cigarettes on equal grounds with tobacco products. The current Tobacco Act does not regulate the use of electronic cigarettes.
