A conscript of the Kuperjanov infantry battalion sustained injuries when a piece of ordnance believed to be an unexploded round of a grenade launcher went off during a bushfire.

The soldier putting out a bushfire caused by a life-fire shooting exercise was injured in the explosion of what in great probability was a piece of unexploded ordnance from a 40 mm under-barrel grenade launcher, military spokespeople said.

The soldier was given first aid on the scene and then taken to hospital by an ambulance. The soldier's life is not in danger and the soldier's parents have been notified.

The military police opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.

The defense forces wish the injured conscript prompt recovery.
