Seriously injured in the truck attack in France, Estonian youth Hans Joosep is being treated in a local Nice hospital intensive care unit. His condition is stable and the family hopeful.

An IT student at Tallinn University of Technology, Hans Joosep (22) was in Nice as part of European academy for innovation.

His parents headed for France via Riga, Latvia on Friday and reached Nice at midday on Saturday simultaneously with the acting consul Kadi Metsand.

According Allan, his father, the son is in stable condition. «There are signs of healing and I am positive and surely [my son] will recover but it will take time,» he said.

«Not in ordinary ward yet. Have not been able to communicate with him yet,» admitted the father. Nevertheless, they have been able to go see the lad every day.

Moving him to be treated in Estonia is out of the question for a while.

Allan is thankful to the consul Ms Metsand sent by the foreign ministry which has «helped us with issues in France and transported us. It has been super and we are thankful. Even now, while meeting the doctor, we had an interpreter and a foreign ministry representative with us.»

They will have lots of paper work to do now as «in a large country it is not as easy,» said the father. Thankfully, Hans Joosep had his travel insurance.

Helped by Estonian businessman

The father of extended special thanks to the entrepreneur Viktor Siilats who provided the families of Estonians perished and injured in the attack a house in Nice rented by his company.

For that, Mr Siilats was grateful to media publishing the arrival of the consul and her contacts «so I had the opportunity and contacted the consul myself,» said the businessman.

«That was so helpful and a very fine place,» said Allan.
