Estonian police captured two Lithuanian car thieves in the southern Viljandi County the night into Friday and a third man who initially escaped was nabbed in the morning.

Two men were apprehended near the town of Karksi-Nuia. The armed men resisted arrest and the police used firearms to detain them. A third man was able to flee in the night but the South prefecture of the police announced at 10:45 that he too had been captured.

«The police operation in Viljandi County to capture suspected car thieves has ended. The police detained the third individual connected with thefts in the open. The man did not resist arrest,» spokeswoman for the South prefecture Kerly Peitel said.

Involved in the operation were patrol officers of the South and West prefectures, special police squads, dog handlers and investigators. The criminal probe into the thefts is led by the Southern district prosecutor's office.
