A conscript doing military service with the Logistics Battalion of the Estonian defense forces was injured in a grenade explosion on Monday night but his life is not in danger.

Conscripts were practicing grenade throwing in the framework of the infantry tactics base course at the Klooga training ground on Monday night, military spokespeople said. Preliminary information is that the injured conscript dropped a grenade into the trench. The conscript and the instructor took cover but the conscript sustained injuries as the grenade went off.

A medic providing support at the training promptly gave first aid after which the injured soldier was taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening and his parents have been informed.

The Logistics Battalion has opened an investigation to establish the exact circumstances of the accident.
