Crimes connected to alcohol up 13 pct on year

Last year the number of crimes connected to alcohol increased by 13 percent on year in Estonia and the number of cases concerning inducing minors to consume alcohol has also increased, it is written in the 2014 yearbook of the Estonian Institute of Economic Research.

Crime connected to alcohol quite considerably increased last year -- while in 2012 the number of such crimes was 68, last year 77 such crimes were registered. The main reason for the growth in the number of such cases was the increased number of cases concerning inducing minors to consume alcohol. A total of 25 such cases were registered last year, while in 2012 the number totaled 18.

Last year the Alcohol Act was breached 10,942 times which is 31 percent less than in 2012. The biggest part of the breaches was made up of minors consuming alcohol and public alcohol consumption.
