According to a recent study carried out by insurer Ergo which assessed the contentment of people with life, the average score of Estonians was 6.26 out of the maximum score of 10, while Lithuanians got an average score of 6.74 and Latvians 6.12.

The happiest with their life were Estonians 18-24 years of age, women in general and the Estonian-speaking population, spokespeople for the company said. The contentment of people who earned at least 500 euros per family member in a month was higher than the national average.

Of Estonian residents 45 percent considered themselves wealthy while 42 percent said they were poor and 13 percent could not give an assessment. The percentage of poor people was the highest among the 35-54 age group, people living in rural areas and among people who earn less than 400 euros per family member in a month. The percentage of wealthy people among Latvians was 48 percent and among Lithuanians 43 percent.

In addition, it was asked how much control people have over their lives in their opinion. This indicator was the highest in Lithuania where the average score was 7.48 out of 10. The average score in Estonia was 7.03 and in Latvia 6.52.

The study was carried out in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as an online survey by pollster SKDS. In Estonia 1,000 people took part aged 18-74.
