Estonian Head of State, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, sent congratulations to the President of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, on Moldova's Independence Day.

«Moldova is a good partner for Estonia among the partner states of the European Union. Furthermore, through its reforms, Moldova sets an example for a number of other countries,» wrote President Ilves, in welcoming Moldova's profound approach to the European Union and on entering into an association and free trade agreement with the EU.

«I am quite sure that by supporting integration with the European Union, the people of Moldova will also support the successful and secure future of their country and its people,» emphasised the Estonian Head of State. «I will also repeat what I said last October at our meeting in Chișinău: Moldova belongs to Europe – the soul, the past and the future of your people is a part of Europe.»

President Ilves confirmed his conviction that co-operation between Moldova and Estonia in different spheres will become closer and more regular as will Estonia's continued help in sharing our European integration experiences and lessons learnt to date.
