Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that the tense situation between Israel and Palestine is very worrisome and the parties must find a peaceful solution to the tensions which have arisen.

«It is tragic and totally unacceptable, when young innocent people are brutally killed as a result of the political ambitions of extremists,»  Paet said. «We call on the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority to take all necessary measures to prevent any further escalation of the tense situation,» he added.

In recent weeks, Israeli-Palestinian relations deteriorated following the kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers. Later, the Israeli youths were found dead.  The abduction and killing of a Palestinian youth following these events has been considered retaliation for the deaths of the three Israeli youths. Over the weekend, violent protests were held in Arab villages in Israel. Israel and Palestine have also begun to exchange fire.
