According to Statistics Estonia, 178,000 tourists used the services of accommodation establishments in February 2014, which was 11% more than in February of the previous year.
In February, more tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than a year ago
In February, 102,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, i.e. 10,000 foreign tourists more than in February 2013. Three-quarters of the foreign tourists came from neighboring countries, Latvia, Finland and Russia, which was a total of nearly 8,000 tourists more than in February a year ago. From several European countries, more tourists arrived than in February of the previous year. However, there were fewer tourists from the United Kingdom and Norway staying in accommodation establishments than in February 2013. The number of tourists arriving from Asian countries continues to increase (45%), but the share of Asian tourists among the clients of accommodation establishments was small.
In February, 77,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which is 7,000 tourists more than in February of the previous year. 55% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and a quarter on a business trip. 27% of domestic tourists using the services of accommodation establishments stayed in Harju county, 17% in Pärnu county and a tenth in both Tartu and Ida-Viru county. Compared to February of the previous year, the number of domestic tourists in Pärnu county increased by a third and in Ida-Viru county by more than a fifth.
In February, 863 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 18,000 rooms and 40,000 beds were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 35% and the bed occupancy rate was 29%. The average cost of a guest night was 30 euros, remaining on the same level as in February 2013. The average cost of a guest night was higher than the Estonian average only in Harju and Lääne-Viru counties. The average cost of a guest night was 24 euros in Pärnu county and 27 euros in Tartu county.
