The police are collecting additional information on the case of an underage Estonian swimmer who tested positive for doping at the Estonia-Finland meet at the end of May and will then decide on its basis whether or not to open a criminal proceeding.

Prescribing a drug for use as a performance enhancing substance in sport, inducing a person to use drugs as doping and delivering a drug to be used as doping are acts punishable pursuant to criminal procedure in Estonia, spokesman for the police Arno Poder told BNS. «If a person is convicted for such acts in a court then the punishment would be a pecuniary punishment,» he added.

The B-sample of the young swimmer who gave a positive sample in May also turned out positive, president of the Estonian Swimming Federation Karol Kovanen confirmed.

The swimmer is a 17-year-old who has set several Estonian junior records and who is coached by Nikolai Borzov who got pulled over last week in Tartu for drunk driving.

The swimmer tested positive for anabolic steroids, Estonian public broadcaster ERR said.
