According to initial reports no one was injured as more than 30 vehicles got into accidents as a result of black ice that had formed on several sections of the Tallinn Ring Road Friday morning.

Spokespeople for the North prefecture of the police said that reports of the first accidents were received at 6:40 a.m. and by 8:30 a.m. the number of vehicles involved in accidents had grown to 20. One hour later the number of affected vehicles stood above 30.

Nobody was injured in the accidents, according to tentative information.

The Rescue Center for North Estonia said that many cars had collided with others and several trucks had driven off the road as a result of icy road conditions on the Tallinn Ring Road, the situation being especially bad in the section between the Kiili junction and Tartu Road.

Police have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution.
