Protesting against re-utilization scheme, ASBL Tyre Association started the day yesterday by dumping 5 tonnes of used tyres into environment ministry yard. «This cannot go on as importers shirking re-utilization by tax fraud are causing environmental pollution,» explained the organisers.

Environment ministry assesses such firms in Estonia to amount to 1,500. Compared to other nations, Estonia is doing poorly: while elsewhere re-utilization of home appliances and tyres is on the rise, in Estonia the opposite is true. It was only in 2011 that five kilograms of end-of-life household appliances and electronics were collected in Estonia per inhabitant, in 2013 the figure stood at mere 3.5 kg.
