Estonia's South district prosecutor's office opened an investigation to look into Tuesday's fire at a hotel in southern Estonian regional capital Otepaa based on the article of the Penal Code dealing with arson.

Spokesperson for the prosecutor's office Kristina Kostina told BNS that it is initial information, therefore the prosecutor's office will first wait for the expertise of the fire, the result of which will either confirm the arson suspicion or overturn it.
On Tuesday evening at 5:14 p.m. the rescue center got a call saying that a building is on fire in Otepaa. Upon arrival, the rescuers saw that it was the two-storey building of Hotel Bernhard. Fortunately there were no people at the hotel at the time of the fire and no one was hurt, except one firefighter who breathed in too much smoke and who was taken to hospital for a checkup.
The fire was confined by 9:30 p.m. and completely put out by 2:33 a.m. The building was destroyed in the fire.
