Estonia to buy water vehicles for border guard for EUR 9 mln

Estonian Ministry of the Interior is to buy with help from the European Union's Internal Security Fund multifunctional water vehicles worth nearly nine million euros for the Police and Border Guard Board which would help to react faster to border breaches on bodies of water situated on the border.

According to Interior Minister Hanno Pevkur the money will be used to buy hovercrafts, cutters, motorboats and water scooters, spokespeople for the ministry said. In addition, a vehicle to transport the water vehicles will be bought.

The total cost of the project is 8,683,308 euros, of which 75 percent will be covered from the fund's resources and 25 percent is the state's co-financing.

Estonia has 891 kilometers of maritime boundaries.
