Estonia climbs three places to 30th in Human Development Index

Estonia rose three places in the newly-released UN Human Development Index 2015 to 30th among 188 countries compared to the previous year, it can be seen from the report published on Monday.

Estonia's position is still among the countries of very high human development.

In 2014 and 2013 Estonia placed 33rd, while in 2012 it placed 34th.

Of Estonia's neighboring countries that belong in the same category of very high human development, Finland is 24th, Sweden 14th, Lithuania 37th and Latvia 46th. Russia placed 50th or among the countries of high human development.

The top three is comprised on Norway, Australia and Switzerland, while Niger placed the lowest in the scoreboard.

The UN Human Development Index, published together with the UN Human Development Report since 1990, is based on life expectancy at birth, an education component and a wealth component. According to the fresh report, improvements in life spans, education and incomes are slowing across the world and development remains very uneven.
