A protest took place in Estonia's Harku detention center for illegal immigrants on Tuesday as detainees demanded for a fellow detainee to be released from a solitary confinement cell.

The police used enforcement and special equipment to restore order, including rubber bullets.

At 7 p.m. a detainee who ignored the orders of police officers, was aggressively disposed and demonstrated resistance was placed in a solitary confinement cell.

«The other detainees who witnessed it started protesting and demanded the fellow detainee to be released. Several dozen detainees blocked the corridor, the men sat down on the floor of the corridor, and refused to stand up and leave. In the following two hours they did not obey to any orders,» spokesperson for the Police and Border Guard Board Marie Aava told.

To restore order, police officers used enforcement, special equipment and rubber bullets and took the detainees to their rooms.

Order was restored by 9:30 p.m.
