Personnel of the new rotation of troops of the U.S. Army deployed to Estonia as part of the operation Atlantic Resolve are scheduled to arrive at the Tapa military base on Friday.
New U.S. unit to arrive at Tapa base Friday
The tanks that are part of the weaponry of the company-sized unit will arrive here next week and 155-mm self-propelled artillery in mid-November.
The A company of 3rd battalion, 69th Armor Regiment of the 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division will replace the U.S. unit previously deployed to Estonia.
The unit's armaments include M1A2 Abrams tanks and armored vehicles.
Capt. Arvo Joesalu, information officer at the headquarters of the defense forces in Tallinn, told BNS that the tanks of the new unit will arrive in Estonia next week. Joesalu has previously told BNS that Paladin 155-mm self-propelled howitzers will arrive in Estonia in mid-November and will stay here until the beginning of December.
The training of US troops in Estonia is takes place as part of the operation Atlantic Resolve aimed at enhancing NATO deterrence in northeastern Europe.
