Estonian Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand is to propose to the government naming director general of the Information Board Rainer Saks new secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as of Dec. 1.

«I am very glad that Rainer Saks accepted my offer and I could make a proposal to the government to name him new secretary general of the ministry. Saks is one of Estonia's top officials who has more than 16 years of experience working in the public service, including at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and 14 years of leadership experience. I am sure he will be an excellent secretary general of the ministry,» Kaljurand was quoted by spokespeople as saying.

In 1999-2001 Saks worked as adviser to the foreign minister. In 2001-2006 he worked as deputy coordination director at the coordination unit of the Government Office. In 2006-2011 Saks headed the Office of the President, in 2007-2011 headed the council of the International Center for Defense and Security, and as of 2011 has been the director general of the Information Board.

The current secretary general Alar Streimann is to become Estonia's ambassador to France as of Aug. 27.
