Tallinn Mayor Edgar Savisaar who has been on sick leave since March returned to office on Wednesday.

According to spokespeople for the Tallinn city government Savisaar ended his sick leave and is back in office.

Savisaar on Wednesday morning headed the cabinet meeting of the Tallinn city government and the main meeting which followed it. The meeting had 19 topics on the agenda.

The long-serving leader of the Center Party is recovering from a severe bout of streptococcal infection that necessitated the amputation of his right leg above knee on March 23 to stop the spread of the disease. The surgeries on Savisaar were performed at the Tartu University Hospital.

Following regenerative treatment at East-Tallinn Central Hospital Savisaar had been recovering at his home on Hundisilma farm situated on the fringes of the Lahemaa National Park some 65 kilometers from the capital since June 19.
