The Estonian Cabinet on Thursday appointed five new members to the board of governors of the Tallinn University of Technology (TTU).

On the proposal of Minister of Education and Research Jurgen Ligi, the government endorsed the resignation of Anneli Heinsoo, Robert Kitt, Sandor Liive and Toomas Luman from the board of governors and recalled a fifth board member,  Heiti Haal. Appointed as new members were Anneli Heinsoo, Ulo Jaaksoo, Vaino Kaldoja, Robert Kitt and Gunnar Okk, spokespeople for the government said.

The board of governors of TTU has been incapable of making decisions since July 7 when four of its members -- Sandor Liive, Toomas Luman, Anneli Heinsoo and Robert Kitt -- resigned. As a result, Jaak Aaviksoo, elected as new rector of TTU, has been not endorsed in the job.

Of the 11 members of the TTU board of governors the council of TTU appoints five members and the Academy of Sciences one member. The remaining five members are appointed by the minister of education and research after the two former have announced their appointments.
