Anna-Maria Galojan, former head of the NGO Estonian European Movement convicted of embezzlement, has served her five-month sentence and was released from prison on Tuesday.

The Justice Ministry confirmed that Galojan completed her sentence on Tuesday and there are no further restrictions on her. She is free to leave Estonia, among other things.

Galojan's conviction and partially non-suspended jail sentence became final in January 2012 when the Estonian Supreme Court threw out an appeal filed by her defense. She fled to Britain to avoid serving the sentence but was after a legal battle that lasted nearly three years extradited to Estonia in February this year.

Galojan was found guilty of spending more than 900,000 kroons (EUR 57,500) of the NGO's money for personal use including expensive clothes, jewelry, shoes, beauty services and travel. She paid back nearly 8,000 euros in 2007. She headed the organization from June to September 2007.
