Estonian Red Cross starts collecting donations for Nepal quake victims

The Estonian Red Cross has started collecting donations to provide assistance to victims of the deadly earthquake in Nepal.

Money can be paid into special Red Cross accounts EE742200001180001436 at Swedbank, EE501010220039608010 at SEB and EE607700771001235446 at LHV Pank under the keyword "Nepali maavarin" (Nepal earthquake), secretary general Riina Kabi told BNS on Monday.

The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal and neighboring countries on Saturday has risen above 3,200. The quake measured 7.8 in magnitude. An aftershock with 6.7 magnitude hit the Kathmandu region on Sunday.

The UN has said 940,000 children in Nepal need help.

The latest information is that also 31 Estonian citizens were staying in Nepal one of whom was killed. The Estonian authorities have got in touch with 26 persons but attempts to contact the remaining four have so far been unsuccessful.
