New head of Estonian Lutheran church installed

Urmas Viilma, who was elected head of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (EELK) on Nov. 26 last year, was on Monday inaugurated as bishop and installed in the office of archbishop of EELK.

The inauguration service took place at St Mary's Cathedral (Toomkirik) in Tallinn.

Viilma was ordained as bishop by Bishop Einar Soone with Archbishop Emeritus Andres Poder and Bishop Andres Taul taking part. They were assisted by Munib A. Younan, president of the Lutheran World Federation and the Evangelical Lutheran church bishop of Palestine and Jordan in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, Archbishop Michael Jackson of the Lutheran Church of Ireland, Danish bishop Steen Skovsgaard, and Michael Bunker, bishop of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Austria and secretary general of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe.
