A woman and her two children died in a fire that burned down a home in Rohu village in the territory of the Laekvere rural municipality in northeastern Estonia on Friday morning.

There was a third child inside the building who managed to jump out of the house and was handed over to medics, spokespeople for the Rescue Board said.

Spokespeople for the East Prefecture of the Police and Border Guard Board said the victims were a woman born in 1981 and her children born in 2009 and 2013. «The police will open a criminal proceeding to investigate the case,» the spokespeople added.

The rescue center received a call about the fire at the wooden home at 8:13 a.m. and the blaze was contained by 9:58.

The house had no electricity supply and according to initial findings the fire was caused by a burning candle, the regional newspaper Virumaa Teataja said.
