«In NATO, Estonia will never lose its independence again,» affirmed Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, in his public address in Tallinn.

The audience was stirred by Mr Obama making mention of the Song Festival tradition, quoted the famous statement by Heinz Valk of «someday we’ll win anyway» (Ükskord me võidame nii kui nii!), and cited the poetess Marie Under.

A large part of the speech centred on NATO and Ukraine. Mr Obama underlined that Estonia would not be forsaken in NATO, nor are large countries allowed to override the small.

As emphatically assured by Barack Obama, NATO will always protect all of its members.

«Our alliance has no old and new members. All are allies, and that’s just how it is; we will defend the territorial integrity of every ally. Defending Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius is just as important as defending Paris, Berlin and London,» stressed the US President, adding that NATO will never swallow the talk about spheres of influence.
