«My sincere congratulations on behalf of everyone in Estonia on your overwhelming victory in the Ukrainian presidential elections,» wrote Estonian head of state Toomas Hendrik Ilves to Petro Poroshenko, the newly elected president of Ukraine.

«Despite the provocations and external influence designed to derail the elections or at the very least call their legitimacy into question, the Ukrainian authorities managed to hold elections that were both honest and democratic,» Ilves wrote. «The commitment of your country's leadership and the resolution of its citizens give all of your allies a sense of assurance that Ukraine can and will overcome the crisis it is currently witnessing.»

«I wish you every strength and success in both notionally and actually reuniting Ukraine, establishing trust within the country and returning the state to all its people,"» Ilves continued.

«Estonia is and will remain a steadfast friend to your country on its path towards a European, peaceful, successful and internationally trusted Ukraine,» he said. «We continue to support your political and economic reforms, which are moving towards the rule of law, and are willing to cooperate with our Ukrainian friends in this area in any way required or desired.»

President Ilves expressed his hope that a meeting between himself and his newly elected Ukrainian counterpart would be possible in the very near future.
