As admitted to Tartu Postimees by mayor of said city Urmas Kruuse (Reform Party), he has been proposed to assume post of health/labour minister in coalition under construction.

«I have been made the offer, for me to consider. Before I decide, we have to talk things over with family, loved ones, with the board,» Mr Kruuse commented on ministership outlook.

According to Mr Kruuse, the decision depends on several factors. «One very vital factor is family. The kids go to kindergarten, in Tartu, and my whole family is here. That, in reality, would mean that I’d have to be on the road,» said Mr Kruuse, who in a month would celebrate seven years as Mayor of Tartu.

«I am very happy in this city and I would like to continue serving townsfolk of Tartu... but, then, even in the new job I could quite directly serve the people of Tartu,» said he.

Also, Mr Kruuse feels the domain offered to be very interesting and important indeed. «In the light of Ukraine, we speak a lot about security; but, taking a broader view on security, then people’s health, years lived in good health, lifespan, and capability to work... Here, a lot needs to be done so as to make our society wealthier, healthier, more supportive of one another,» Mr Kruuse said today.

According to Mr Kruuse, the minister’s post first surfaced on Wednesday, as proposed to him by Taavi Rõivas. «The new prime minister wants to weigh all possible candidates at the board, on Monday; so, by Monday night it ought to be clear who the Reform Party candidates are,» said Mr Kruuse.

Mr Kruuse said his possible successor in Tartu has not yet been discussed. «We haven’t even discussed [that], as there has been no need. But I think that, should it be necessary, we would surely find someone worthy for the post. At the moment, however, I would rather not even speculate with names,» said Mr Kruuse.
