At a secret ballot yesterday, Riigikogu elected soc dem Eiki Nestor as its new President. Mr Nestor was supported by 54 parliament members. His opponent, the current speaker Ene Ergma (IRL) was backed by 45. To her successor, Ms Ergma wished the best – with a warm hug and red roses.

Having been elected into office, Mr Nestor said the spending promised by upcoming coalition had no single big source of backup; rather, the money would be collected bit by bit. «We were discussing the option to use one big source of income; even so, we reached no agreement regarding that,» he added.
As Vice Presidents of the Riigikogu, Laine Randjärv (Reform Party) and Jüri Ratas (Centre Party) will continue, pocketing 51 and 48 yes-votes respectively.
Powers of the new Board of the Riigikogu are in force for one year i.e. till the spring of 2015 when the new Riigikogu enters into office.
