Today, the four new speed cameras lining Ääsmäe-Haapsalu Highway launched into measuring how fast the cars travel. In months to come, other roads in Harju County are getting nine measuring boxes to rotate four more cameras, announced the Road Administration.

The four fresh cameras, sitting along the section between 4th and 17th kilometres, fall into the 90 km/h zone, two for either direction.

All in all, near future means 13 boxes and eight cameras coming to Harju County roads. To fill all the boxes, cameras purchased earlier will be used. In addition to Ääsmäe-Haapsalu-Rohuküla Highway, cameras are coming to Tallinna-Saku-Laagri, Tallinna-Rannamõisa-Kloogarand and Tallinna-Rapla-Türi highways. The specific sections will be announced by Road Administration as the cameras «get busy».

The locations for speed cameras are determined by last five years’ statistics of accidents with casualties, traffic volume, speed of vehicles in given sections, availability of electricity and local conditions. The camera-covered sections will also be equipped with informative road signs. Estonia’s national roads now boast 44 measuring boxes and 31 speed cameras.
