Estonian Special Operations Force (ESTSOF) serving in Afghanistan with U.S soldiers is deployed in Afghanistan near Kabul, it appears from the covering letter of a bill initiated by the Estonian Ministry of Defense.

The Ministry of Defense is seeking opinions on a bill which would prolong the Afghan mission of the Estonian Defense Forces until the end of 2014.

The covering letter mentions the special operations force among others when describing the Estonian contingent. «In addition to Helmand the Special Operations Force is serving near Kabul,» it is written in the covering letter.

The defense forces and the Defense Ministry have so far kept secret the location, size, tasks and other details of the unit.

The first rotation of the unit began in Afghanistan in last December and finished its service in the summer of this year. Right now the unit's new rotation is serving in Afghanistan. The unit is serving under the U.S. Army Special Forces.

The Estonian Special Operations Force was created in 2008 but the defense forces started preparing it already in 2005.
