Vice-President of the United States Joe Biden showed his support for the efforts of the Baltic countries to diversify energy sources and create a more transparent energy market.

«Your energy success is important for the U.S. both strategically and economically. We support your efforts as EU member states to diversify energy sources and create a more transparent energy market,» the vice-president said in an article published in the Lithuanian daily Lietuvos Rytas.

The article was published on Friday in connection with the visit of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian presidents in the U.S. during which the three Baltic leaders are to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama.

«The United States can share their unique experience in energy,» said Biden emphasizing that the Baltic countries' cooperation with Nordic countries to find innovative methods for energy independence is an achievement for all.

According to Biden the economic relations between the U.S. and the Baltic countries should reach the level of close defense cooperation.

The four presidents will exchange views on economic cooperation and negotiations between the European Union and the United States for the Transatlantic Trade Agreement, spokespeople for the President of Lithuania said.
