Estonian Ambassador Marten Kokk will chair the budget committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) starting September.

The council of OECD elected Kokk chairman of the budget committee at its session in July, making him the first ever Estonian to stand at the helm of one of the OECD's 250 committees.

The budget committee is one of OECD's three standing committees and its next tasks will be to draw up the OECD budget for 2014 and a new action plan for 2015-2016.

The size of the OECD budget for 2013 is 354 million euros. The biggest contributor is the United States whose contribution makes up 22 percent of the organization's budget, followed by Japan and Germany.

The OECD executive committee will be chaired by the ambassador of Australia, Chris Barretta, while Pascale Andreani of France will continue as head of the external relations committee and Mexican Angel Gurria as secretary general of OSCE.
