Estonian powerboat racer seriously injured in Germany

Estonian powerboat racer Lembit Aaslav-Kaasik was seriously injured in a competition held in Germany, the daily Postimees writes.

The injured 28-year-old sportsman is in hospital at the moment and hadn't gained consciousness as of last night. «He drove into waves and the boat completely smashed. In the language of moto sportsman -- he drove into a ramp or a single long wave which isn't clearly visible. At the moment of the accident the boat was moving at the maximum speed of 170 kilometers per hour,» brother of the sportsman Ahto Aaslav-Kaasik said.

«The boat of the Estonian smashed and he was taken to hospital. He has been moved from the intensive care unit,» Postimees quotes an organizer of the event Klaus Driefert as saying.

According to the organizers of the event there were very difficult conditions for athletes at the Bitterfeld GP round.
