Registered unemployment drops to 5.3 pct in July

The number of registered unemployed in Estonia continued decreasing for the fifth consecutive month in July and at the end of the month 34,767 people or 5.3 percent of the workforce from age 16 to retirement age were officially registered as out of work, data of the Unemployment Insurance Fund show.

In July the Unemployment Insurance Fund registered 5,480 new jobless and 3,003 people either found work or started business with the help of the fund.

The rate of registered unemployment was the highest in Valga County at 9.8 percent and East-Viru County at 9.3 percent. The lowest rates were recorded in Viljandi County and Jogeva County, respectively 3.5 percent and 3.7 percent.

Recipients of the unemployment insurance benefit numbered 10,350, accounting for 26 percent of registered jobless. The average benefit per calendar month was 363 euros and the sum total disbursed exceeded 3.2 million euros.

The basic unemployment allowance of around 102 euros a month was paid to 8,166 persons, 21 percent of the total number of registered jobless.

The benefit in the case of insolvency of the employer was assigned to 50 persons during the month, the average size of the benefit was 2,532 euros and overall 106,000 euros was paid out under that item.
