Car dealers in Estonia sold 1,771 cars during July, 8.7 percent more than in the same month a year ago and 4.5 percent more than in June.

New car sales in the first seven months of the year exceeded the figure for January-July 2012 by 6 percent, the association of car dealers and service companies AMTEL said on Tuesday.

In July Skoda topped the traditional leader Toyota on the list of carmakers in terms of new car sales in Estonia by selling 210 units against Toyota's 205. Volkswagen placed third with 155 units.

For the first time in many months there was not a single four-wheel drive or SUV among the three top-selling models of cars in Estonia. The top 3 in July was made up of Skoda Octavia, Toyota Avensis and Honda Civic, in that order.

The sale of utility vehicles continues to be on the rise in Estonia and during the month 306 such vehicles were sold, slightly more than both in June and in July 2012.

A change took place in July also in the list of top-selling utility vehicles, where Renault climbed to the top leaving Ford second and Citroen third. Scania was the leader in truck sales ahead of Volvo.
