Alongside previous countries of origin the number of tourists from Asian countries has increased in Estonia, a representative of Radisson Blu Hotel Olumpia told BNS.

«The main countries where guests of Hotel Olumpia come from are the same as before - Finland, Germany and Russia, but what I regard as positive is the growth in the number of Asian guests and their increased interest in our destination,» the hotel's sales manager Vitali Makejev said. In his words, the principal home countries of Asian tourists are Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The occupancy rate of the hotel was between 80 and 85 percent in May and June, which tops last year's figures. "The principal segment in May last year was business groups and business visitors, whereas in May this year the share of tourists was considerably larger. In June it was the other way round," Makejev said.

He predicted slightly quieter times for July but expects results in August to surpass last year's again. Going by the number of various events, September and October also look promising.

«The most wanted date in August is undoubtedly the 20th when Robbie Williams will be performing in Tallinn,» the sales manager observed.

Representatives of Tallink hotels and Go Hotel Shnelli likewise have told BNS that this summer is very promising on the Tallinn hotel landscape in terms of an increase in guest numbers.

The hotel confidence indicator of the Estonian Institute of Economic Research jumped from 7 points in the first quarter of this year to 60 points in the second quarter. A year earlier the confidence level was 67 points.
