Tallinn University of Technology emerges as most popular

In many universities, admission of applications ended this Friday. On the basis of current data, Tallinn University of Technology is leading the pack, with 10,505 applications received.

«These past years, TUT has thoroughly developed its study programmes and has evolved into a contemporary technology university where technology is intertwined with business, design, healthcare, environment, law, public administration and many other specialties,» said TUT board member Heiki Lemba.

TUT Bachelor’s, engineering and professional higher education received 7,139 applications, Master’s studies and Doctoral studies getting 2,368 and 161, respectively. Applications by foreign students, the deadline for which has not yet arrived, stand at 837. The largest increase of applications is attributed to technology-related specialties.

«The large amount of applications confirms we are on the right path – TUT’s endeavours have been noticed, drawing in the youth,» said Mr Lemba.

On first level, the bulk of the applications were filed for informatics, business, public administration and business information technology. IT-specialities were followed by gene technology, logistics, food technology and product development, industrial and civil construction, and mechatronics.

In Master’s studies, personnel training and development, business finances and accounting were the most popular, as well as business IT, product development and production technology, informatics, logistics, and cyber defence (in English).

Friday was the final day for handing in applications for daytime study at University of Tartu. As at Friday morning, 8,865 applications had arrived, 6,977 for Bachelor’s studies, 1,597 for Master’s and 291 for Doctoral studies. Medicine being by far the most popular specialty, with 447 applications filed by Friday morning. 

In Tallinn University, applications are being accepted via the SAIS information system for specialties requiring entry exams – up to July 9th.

As at last Friday, TU had received 7,018 applications by residents of Estonia and 332 from abroad. Amongst Bachelor’s courses, law, psychology and statecraft are the most popular. Among the Master’s studies’ entrants, organisational behaviour, specialist pedagogue-consultant and social pedagogy, and child protection stand out. 39 applications have been filed for Doctoral studies.

According to the TU admissions specialist Merit Paist, the amount of prospective entrants is up from last year, with increased numbers of earlier gymnasium graduates – as those who have not passed state exams are able to enter Bachelor’s studies on the basis entrance examination results.
