The Estonian government approved on Thursday the sale of three million euros' worth of unused emission allowances to Luxembourg, the proceeds are to be used for supporting the renovation of apartment buildings.

The transaction is a follow-up to the agreement concluded with Luxembourg in 2010 the amount of which was 30 million euros and after which 576 apartment blocks and 292 private homes were renovated and 95 micro renewable energy devices were installed, the government's press service said.

All the proceeds from the follow-up deal will be allocated in support of investments to raise the energy efficiency of apartment houses.

Eligible for support are buildings with a minimum of three apartments, mostly multi-story precast concrete apartment blocks.
