According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index was 0.2% in May 2013 compared to April and 3.3% compared to May of the previous year.
The change of consumer price index in May was mainly influenced by food
Goods were 2.8% and services 4.3% more expensive compared to May of the previous year.
Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 0.8% and non-regulated prices by 4.2% compared to May of the previous year.
Compared to May 2012, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by food, which gave a half of the total increase. Of which in turn two fifths gave 37% more expensive vegetables, a quarter 27% more expensive fruits and another fifth 6.1% more expensive meat and meat products. Housing expenditures gave over 40% of the total increase, of which two thirds more expensive electricity accounted for 25%. In May 2013, motor fuel was 5.6% cheaper than a year earlier. Compared to the same period of the previous year, of food products, the prices of potatoes have increased the most (80%), 41% fresh vegetables and 27% fruits. The prices of eggs and coffee have decreased (18% and 10.6%, respectively).
In May compared to April, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by 1.6% more expensive food and 4.2% price decrease of motor fuel and 5.4% price decrease of electric energy. Compared to the previous month, the prices of vegetables increased by 7.3% and the prices of fruits by 4.9%, causing two thirds of the price increase of food. During a month, prices of carrots increased by 55% and prices of tomatoes decreased by 13%.
