The Latvian decision to accede to the euro was the only right choice for it as a small country and a very European choice too, Estonian Finance Minister Jürgen Ligi said on Wednesday.

"I'm glad about both the European Commission's decision made today as well as the Latvian aspiration," Ligi told BNS commenting on the decision of the European Commission and the European Central Bank deeming Latvia to be ready for eurozone membership.

"I've been asked many times why Estonia doesn't evade making a contribution to the eurozone crisis solving arrangement and I believe that the answer of Latvia would be the same as mine: We and the whole of Europe get back much more from cooperation than we put in and besides all that input has a strong moral dimension," Ligi said.

"I'm also glad that Latvia is a good example of correction of mistakes of the past and an answer to those who present essential reform of the state and crisis solving as too much austerity to cope with," the Estonian finance minister added.
