More than 30,000 people across Estonia were taking part in the day of civil actions, called Let's do it, on May 4, according to tentative information gathered by the action's headquarters by midday.

The initiator of the day of civil actions or cleanup day, Estonian Fund for Nature board member Tarmo Tüür, said the headquarters had received an extraordinary amount of positive feedback by noon. "We have a really mighty civil actions day under way all over Estonia today. Today's civil actions day once again demonstrates that the people of Estonia are not indifferent toward what is going on around us and how our neighbor is doing," Tüür said. "People want to make a contribution to their community and to value the area where they live and its cultural heritage. For the participants in the civil action day it matters that there was abundance of life in the villages and towns of Estonia, and nobody else than us can create that feeling of life and togetherness."

The team of the civil actions day and the Estonian Rescue Board are inviting residents to heed fire safety rules and keep tools and water necessary to extinguish flames at hand wherever a fire to burn litter is started. Participants are advised to refrain from lighting up a fire if there's significant wind. Besides participants in the cleanup are reminded to immediately call the emergency number if an explosive device or an item resembling one is found, to inform the rescue authority at the phone number 1524 about uncovered wells or manholes, and to keep a close eye on children if the cleanup is performed near a body of water.
