According to Elektriraudtee Ldt press representative Norbert Kaareste, traffic will significantly increase as new trains are employed. For instance: there will be eight Tallinn-Tartu trips a day.

«Starting the new year, the interval between trains towards Aegviidu and Riisipere will be one hour, /…/ at peak hours,  a train should go from Keila to Tallinn in every 15 minutes,» said Mr Kaareste. Since April 1st next year, a train to Viljandi will go six times a day (both ways), to Tartu eight times (both ways), and to Pärnu twice a day. Currently it is four times to Tartu, once to Narva, twice to Viljandi and Pärnu, in a day.

The train company representative said their Finnish colleagues predict doubling of travellers as new trains arrive. Thus, new lines can’t be excluded as major railway repairs are finished, such as Tartu-Elva or Tartu-Jõgeva.

He explained that Elektriraudtee and Ministry of Economic Affairs will be monitoring the increase of passengers as the new trains start rolling. «The more popular trains become, the easier it will be to fill up the schedules or add new lines, as the demand requires,» underlined Mr Kaareste.

At the moment, Elektriraudtee has 11 electric trains, Edelaraudtee 12 diesel trains. New trains will only be operated by Elektriraudtee, and from January 1st, the company will operate 18 electric trains and, at that time, also 13 diesel trains.
